Rosebud Salve Lip Balm Review

A timeless classic

Every now and then you come across a beauty product which you know has been around for ages but which somehow you have only just discovered. And once discovered you wonder how you ever managed to live without it.

Smith’s Rosebud Salve is the review of the week this time around. It is a truly classic and timeless product which looks just as pretty as it did when it was first created, which is of course part of its charm and why it is still such a big hit today.

And now, just like then, it’s still working hard to keep lips soft and pretty, in an effortless, understated way, without a big advertising budget or celebrity endorsement. This is one lip balm which mostly works on word of mouth – recommendations from friends who has also recently discovered it, or perhaps an older family member who has been swearing by it for years.

The Rosebud Perfume Company – a history

A bit of history: The Rosebud Perfume Company dates back to 1895 when it was founded by George F. Smith. At that time it was a small drug store, but later moved up in the world and occupied larger premises. It gradually built up a loyal following and decided to invest in some advertising which helped it to become the success it is today.

A multi-purpose product

The great thing about Smith’s Rosebud Salve is that is has more than one use, which makes it an even better buy.

Obviously it has become best known, and loved, for treating and soothing dry lips, and calming minor lip irritations such as chapping. But it’s also widely used for the treatment of minor burns, taking the sting away to sooth and nourish, and for dry elbows, knees and other extremities – it helps condition parched skin, returning it to its natural soft state.

Mothers with babies will also tell of its magic healing properties in the treatment of diaper rash – so truly a can’t live without product!

Goodness inside and out

Smith’s Rosebud Salve’s special formula comprises cotton seed oil and aromol as well as a range of essential oils which are blended in a special petrolatum base. It doesn’t contain any parabens, sulfates, phthalates, GMOs or triclosan and isn’t tested on animals either, so you can rest assured that it contains no nasty stuff.

This rich but gentle emollient formula provides a subtle sheen to make lips look their natural best, while working deep down to keep moisture locked in. And its deliciously subtle aroma means it’s just as pleasing to the nose as it is to the lips.

Varieties to suit all lips

Rosebud Salve has come a long way since it was first created. It now comes in a range of varieties and applications, including its traditional dinky 8 oz tin, and its new squeezy 0.5 oz tube variety which means lip balm lovers can apply the product finger-free.

Flavors include:

  • Rosebud Salve – the original classic
  • Minted Rose Lip Balm
  • Strawberry Lip Balm
  • Mocha Rose
  •  Brambleberry Rose

The makers have also created a neat little gift pack – for you or a friend! The Three Lavish Layers of Lip Balm includes three tins of salve (rosebud salve, strawberry lip balm and minted rose lip balm) complete with a larger tin to store them all in, or any other bits and pieces you like, such as q-tips or cotton balls. A must-have addition to any cosmetics collection.
