Salma Hayek is well known for her gorgeous Latin looks and youthful skin. In a recent interview with ELLE magazine, she revealed her secret: Tepezcohuite Cream
“I use an ingredient called Tepezcohuite that’s used in Mexico for burn victims because it completely regenerates the skin, and there’s no one in the States who is using this ingredient except for us,”
What is Tepezcohuite
In fact she believes in the product so much, that she is launching her own beauty line called “Nuance” which will feature products made of indigenous Mexican products including Tepezcohuite. Hayek gave credit to her grandmother, who passed on her beauty tips, including the use of this brilliant product.
The main ingredient consists of a pomade derived from the from the Tepezcohuite tree (Mimosa Tenuiflora), gotten from the bark of the tree. The tree is native to southern Mexico and Latin America.
Uses of Tepezcohuite
It has been said that the Mayans roasted the tree bark as a medicine to heal skin lesions, and have been aware of the potency of Tepezcohuite of hundreds of years.
The bark also contains tannins (the same chemical responsible for the taste and color of your tea) and is reputed to have properties that help stop skin and intestinal bleeding.
In Mexico, burn victims are usually treated with Tepezcohuite, especially those who have had severe burns as a result of disasters. Although available as a hair and skin product, its still a lesser known product than it should be.
